February 2021: Wrapping up “Relationships”

As the end of February comes into view, we wanted to reflect on our month of discussing relationships — with ourselves, our friends, our partners, our families, etc. In our first and third podcast episodes of the month, we talked about pivotal moments that changed the way we viewed our bodies in middle, high school, and college. In our second episode, Mallory and Ryan told hilarious stories about her their dates and relationship and what they’ve learned about living together during COVID-19. The final episode of the month shared the therapy stories of nine women. This month challenged us to reassess our relationships to ourselves, the past, and the future. We learned so much from all the women on the therapy podcast and values their insights deeply.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to one of our four podcasts on relationships or read our blog posts, head to the links below:

Relationships Episode 1: “F*ck Fourth Grade” — On this week's episode Lara, Mallory, and Makena talk about when they first felt pressure to change how they look (approx. fourth grade). The group discusses pivotal or vivid moments in their youth that transformed the way they viewed themselves and their bodies. Mallory reminisces about show choir; Makena tells the story of putting in her first tampon; and Lara won't stop talking about her love for pen15 on Hulu.

Relationships Blog Post 1: “Puberty is Weird” — During the month of February, the GTG community is putting a spotlight on relationships. We know what you’re thinking -- these Bachelor obsessed girls are about to preach at me about how to spice up my relationship and give me tips that seem like they could come from that one podcast that rhymes with “tall her zaddy”. Well, hate to break to ya but we might actually be the complete opposite…

Relationships Episode 2: “The Great Hinge Debate & More Embarrassing Dating Stories” — Ryan Powers joins Mallory on F*ck Wellness this week to discuss their views on marriage, dating apps, and what makes a successful relationship. Ryan tells the story of a date gone awry; Mallory explains the three tests she gave Ryan during their first conversation; and the pair talks about how their different views of marriage almost caused problems in their relationship. This might be the most dramatic season (oops episode) of this podcast yet.

Relationships Blog Post 2: “What I Learned In Therapy About Love, Relationships, and Marriage” — My parents got divorced when I was little. I don’t remember it being particularly traumatic. Then again, I was two years old. I had my fair share of Parent Trap moments over the years, but I liked my step parents. I loved getting gifts from four people (plus all of their families!) for the holidays and felt satisfied with the amount of love I had in my life. I generally existed in the world without the weight of divorce on my mind…

Relationships Episode 3: “Bodycon Dresses, High School Dances, & First Loves” — On this episode of F*ck Wellness, Lara, Mallory, and Makena reminisce about important relationships and friendships during their late high school and college years. Lara talks about her obsession with bodycon dresses; Mallory describes feeling lonely during college; and Makena tells the story of how her first relationship shaped how she viewed her body. The episode ends with the three girls giving advice to their younger selves.

Relationships Blog Post 3: “What We’d Tell Our Younger Selves” — On this week’s episode of F*ck Wellness, Lara, Mallory, and Makena reminisce about important relationships and friendships during their late high school and college years. The conversation begins with Lara, Mallory, and Makena talking about what they valued most in high school. Mallory and Lara identify their intelligence as what they valued most highly while Makena viewed her responsibility and reliability as evidence of her value in high school…

Relationships Episode 4: “Community Series: On Wednesdays We Talk Therapy” — What better way to conclude our month discussing relationships than with a podcast sharing the therapy stories of nine incredible women? This episode is dedicated to highlighting and normalizing therapy and those who go to therapy in our society. We want to thank all the women who so eloquently and vulnerably opened up about their experiences with depression, anxiety, difficult relationships, and stigma.

Relationships Blog Post 4: “Let’s Normalize Therapy. Please & Thank You.” — On this week’s episode of F*ck Wellness, Lara, Mallory, and Makena bring on nine incredible and thoughtful women to tell their therapy stories to conclude our month of discussing relationships. This episode is dedicated to highlighting and normalizing therapy and those who go to therapy in our society. We want to thank each of these women for their vulnerability, honesty, and deep insights into mental health, barriers to therapy, and the lessons they’ve learned. Each woman’s story was unique, multi-faceted, and we feel so lucky to be able to share them on our platform.
